As a person who has moved five times in ten years, (I know crazy, right?), I have personally always choose to do my own packing and here’s why….

Decluttering while organizing; Not only does it give you the opportunity to go through and get rid of stuff that no longer serves you by donating or tossing it, but it also saves you time when unpacking.

Label for smarter packing; A HUGE tip and time saver for a less stressful move is packing and labeling. You can color code, or label each box which room it belongs in so it goes directly to the space it needs to. This will cut your unpacking time in half.

Using the same size boxes: A lot of people, myself include, have gone to their local grocery or liquor stores to get whatever boxes were available to start the packing process. While this may be convenient and cost effective, buying new, sturdy and the same size boxes proves smarter in the long run. (You can buy boxes at any local U-Haul, or Home Depot). Here’s why. When you go to pack everything into your U-Haul, Truck or whatever type of vehicle you will be using, you won’t find yourself playing a game of Tetris. Everything is the same shape and size making it easy for stacking. You’ll never have to worry about lifting an oversized, heavy box that may cause back issues. Also, you will be able to use every inch available making less trips, saving time and money in the long run.
